ABOUT & OBJECTIVE:
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (“POSH Act”) is a special legislation that was enacted with the objective of creating safe workplaces for women in our country.
As we enter the tenth year of this law, it is time that each of us, who are or will be entering into the work force, are aware of it.
POSH Act was formulated as a result of the Vishaka guidelines given by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case of Vishaka and Others. vs. State of Rajasthan and Others. This judgment came in the backdrop of the Bhanwari Devi gangrape.
It has three major elements- prevention, prohibition, and redressal. As per this act, it is the duty of the employer to provide safe working environment and take steps to prevent and prohibit sexual harassment. The POSH Act also lays down the redressal mechanism and calls for constitution of a dedicated committee to handle complaints.
Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) is a mandatory committee in Surya Sen Mahavidyalaya that receives and redresses complaints of sexual harassment or any kind of misconduct or misbehaviour on the part of students and staff.
The Women's Cell also works in the same manner to ensure a safe work environment.
Any issues relating to sexual harassment or any kind of misconduct at the workplace can be brought to any of these two bodies in confidence.
HOW TO CONTACT WITH MEMBERS:
On the first and third Monday of every month ICC and Women’s Cell Members will be available in the designated chamber of the Cells in the new building for receiving complaints and also for counselling from 2-00 PM to 3-00 PM.
Students and Staff also can reach Members through the following Emails and lodge any kind of grievances or complaints or for counselling—
