SHORT BIO:

She has completed M.Sc from Jadavpur University and Ph.D from Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Jadavpur. She is serving the institution since 2008. She has eight peer reviewed International journal publications. Nine papers were presented in International Conferences. She has awarded the Best Paper Award in the Two-day International Conference on Recent Trends in Basic and Applied Sciences jointly organized by Department of Physics, Bhairab Ganguly College in association with Department of Physics, Dum Dum Motijheel College, West Bengal during 6th and 7th July, 2020. And also awarded the Best Poster Award (second position) at the International Conference on Solar Cell "IC-SOLACE 2008" organised by Department of Physics, CUSAT, Kerala, India during 21st - 23rd January, 2008. She also has 5 edited book chapters on her specialized topics.

RESEARCH INTEREST:

Experimental Solid State Physics with fundamental interests in magnetic and dielectric properties of Quantum magnetic materials, Transition metal oxides, Multiferroics, Electrocaloric and Magnetocaloric materials.
Structural and electronic properties using synchrotron tools.
Magnetic properties using neutron diffraction tools.
Materials with applications in battery electrodes.
Materials for cryogenic applications.

SHORT BIO:

Dr. Karmakar is a gold medalist in B.Sc. from A. C. College and M.Sc. from University of North Bengal. He completed Ph.D. and a brief postdoc from Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science in experimental Solid State Physics. He also served as a lecturer in Physics in WB Govt. polytechnic institutions (WBGS) for nearly four years before joining this department as an Assistant Professor. Currently he is also actively involved in professional research activities in experimental Solid State Physics and is guiding research fellows towards doctoral degree. As a faculty of this college, he has already completed one R&D project (GOI) and currently executing one more. He also has active research collaborations with faculties from UGC DAE CSR - Kolkata, Mumbai and Indore, IIT Goa, IACS, Neotia University – Kolkata, Jadavpur University and University of North Bengal. He is a frequent user of international large scale research facilities such as Petra III (DESY, Hamburg), Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste (Italy), ISIS (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxford) and Photon Factory (Tsukuba, Japan) for synchrotron and neutron diffraction experiments. Currently he has about 25 international journal articles. He is enlisted as independent Ph.D. supervisor in the Department of Physics, University of North Bengal.

About the Department:

The Department of Physics was established in 1998 with an aim to inculcate in-depth knowledge of Physics among the students in the most authentic manner. The department initially started with Physics being offered as a general subject in B.Sc. (old system). Honours course was introduced in 2017 in the old annual system. Presently, the department supports the Four Year Undergraduate Program and also the briefly followed CBCS curriculum for the old batches of students. Currently there are four professors and four laboratory staffs in the department. There are three spacious laboratories and a multitude of modern instruments for practical classes. A separate and dedicated computer laboratory in the Department of Computer Science, housing 26 computers, also supports the Physics department for computational practical classes. The department currently has a research fellow who is registered under the University of North Bengal for Ph.D. and provides dedicated working space and environment for research scholars. With three doctorate faculties, the department loves to maintain and inculcate research sentiments among the professors and students.
