An effective Learning Assessment Mechanism serves a dual purpose in an institution: on the one hand, it serves as mechanisms to chronicle students’ learning; on the other hand, it also serves to measure the efficacy of teaching-learning activities. Surya SenMahavidyalaya follows a robust learning assessment mechanism to assess the actual attainment of Programme Outcome, Programme Specific outcome and Course Outcomes. Academic Committee is responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures related to assessment and evaluation in accordance with the examination policies of the University of North Bengal.After the introduction of CBCS syllabus from the academic year 2018-19, we have two types of examination systems running parallel. The first one is Annual Examination System for the Three Years Degree Course , and the other is Semester Examination System for CBCS students. For both types of students we organize Test Examination before the final examination to measure their progress, followed by Re-test for slow-learners, as decided by the Academic and Exam Committee.Besides this, various departments are given free hand to chalk out their own policies of evaluation of students' learning outcome.The IQAC of the college also seekssuggestions from the departments regarding their academic planning and also proposals to organize departmental seminars and workshops. The college heavily relies on the mechanism of Continuous Evaluation through conducting of class tests,unit-tests, project preparation, and other participatory learning mechanisms such as group discussion,seminar participation, etc. as means of measuring students' attainment of POs, PSOs, and Cos. After the examination teachers assess the results and according to need introduce new methodologies of imparting lessons. For third-year students, we have made seminar presentation as a mandatory exercise towards assessing their academic skill and the power of introspection and innovation. Teachers are always encouraged by the authority to use innovative teaching methodology to make their class interesting and meaningful for the students. For this reason, a large section of teachers uses ICT for making the process of imparting knowledge interesting and attractive for the students.We also upload selective class lecture videos for the students' any time accessibility, which helps them to grasp the subject matter in a better manner.
